Chair Justina Carlson called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m.
Administrative Update on Repairs
Town Administrator Harry Terkanian was present to discuss repair issues for the Municipal Water System. He explained how the Town of Mashpee handles repairs to their system. He also addressed leak issues and possible sharing of detection equipment with another town. Mr. Terkanian said that using the Wellfleet DPW is another possibility for working on the system.
Maps of Nitrate and Sodium Levels in Wellfleet
Michaela Miteva displayed a new large map depicting nitrate levels in Wellfleet. Harry Terkanian and the Board examined the map. Miteva had also provided smaller maps1 that show sodium levels of tested wells in Wellfleet. Board members discussed problem areas, particularly one in the Fox Island Marsh/ Indian Neck area.
Office Report
Michaela Miteva gave the BWC Office Report of April 15, 2014.2 Included in the report were: expenditures and revenues to date; application numbers; the rate for connections; news of the wrap-up construction meeting; an abutter information request from contractors; new connection deposits; interest in a connection by a non-abutter to the system; and the new nitrate level maps printed by Slade Associates. The Board discussed ways the non-abutters could connect by paying for a main on their street.
Harbor Fest Ideas
Jim Hood had prepared some suggestions for Harbor Fest3 to provide information on Wellfleet water. However, Harbor Fest is not a certainty this year.
Expansion Update
Bill Carlson provided some notes on planning for the future.4 He included some target dates in his outline for placing a Warrant Article in Annual Town Meeting 2015. The Board discussed directions for the future. Bill Carlson also said he will be meeting with the National Seashore water maintenance person to discuss their system.
Announcement
Bill Carlson announced that he would not be renewing his term with the Board of Water Commissioners when it expires in June.
Minutes
Bill Carlson moved to approve the minutes of April 1, 2014. Justina Carlson seconded, and the motion carried 4-0.
